Living in the vicinity, I was not even aware of the existence of this place. So when I reached the location directed by google maps, I was still a little confused. Located on the 12th floor of what appeared to be a residential complex, Acqua Caelum is walking distance from The Little Door.
Its only when you enter this place & get a bird’s eye view you feel – Andheri west has never looked this great.
With alfresco seating the ambiance was absolutely welcoming. Long comfy sofa’s, swings, tall tables – chose whatever makes you comfortable. The lights – neither too bright nor too dark – add to a great vibe. Fellow foodies & me chose a khopcha (corner) seating for the evening. On a Friday evening, the place was filling up with friends catching up, a birthday celebration, etc
Acqua Caelum’s USP – Pure Vegetarian Sheesha Joint
Being a teetotaler & a non-hookah/sheesha fan, I was looking forward to the food. We started our evening with Mozzarella Sticks, Cheesy Garlic Bread & Potato Bravas. Along with the food I was offered a mocktail – Black Vanilla.
Stacked in a tic-tac-toe pattern, the cheesy gooey, crumb coated deep fried Mozzarella Sticks were served with a mayo dip & ketchup. Disappeared with in few minutes.
Another classic, which never fails – Cheesy Garlic Bread. Topped with cheese & toasted crisp, a good snack to munch on with the drink. My drink – The Black Vanilla – was an amazing creamy soda based drink which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Potato Bravas here came covered in gravy – A first for me. I have had these in the past but those have been chunks of potatoes tossed in spices & topped with very little sauce. PB here was more like a pasta in arrabbiata sauce. The potato chunks were soggy & I didn’t enjoy this.
Though really simple, most places don’t get Aglio E Olio right. But when served, it was wiped clean really quick. Not too oily & perfectly balanced, this one is a must try.
Pizza’s were served next – Farm House & Veg Kofta Pizza.
Though loaded with peppers, onions, capsicum & paneer & tasted fine, I missed olives, mushrooms, babycorns, etc in the farm house pizza.
Kofta Pizza – their MUST-HAVE turned out to be really disappointing. Chunks of paneer-kofta’s on a bed of cheese. Expected this one to have an Indian twist but nada.
Fatayer a middle eastern pie with Afghani & Italian filling were served next. The filling – cabbage, bell peppers, onion’s – is the same. The sauce is the only difference. With a crusty covering, these are perfect bar food. Nothing to complain about, just fine.
Penne in Pink Sauce was my favourite of the evening. Creamy with the pasta cooked perfectly, this was a great end to the evening.
Acqua Caelum surprised me with its view & ambiance. The food in terms of taste, presentation is just fine. The portion is good & Value For Money. Staff is attentive & service is good. With live acoustic music, sheesha and an amazing view – Visit Acqua Caelum for your next drinks catch-up. Will I visit again? For the view & penne in pink sauce – Yes 🙂
