Reached at 8:15 am, saw few people sitting on the benches outside & thought we have to wait for a while to get our table. But fortunately we didn’t have to wait 🙂
An old institution with extremely basic seating. Short & simple menu which you can read from the wall. We started with a plate of idli & plain dosa.
The idli was served with a small bowl of sambar. Warm, super soft idli dunked in sambar & chutney was awesome. The chutney is served, in fact poured, over the idli/dosa.
What amazes me are the dosas they serve here & similar places like this – dark brown, crispy on the outside & white, soft, spongy with small bubbles on the inside loaded with ghee. You can hear a crack sound every time you break a piece out of this master piece. Another interesting fact is the manner in which they carry & serve the dosas. Each person carries around 10 plates of dosas at one go on his left arm placing them one-above-the-other balancing them perfectly & serving them as he moves along.
Khara Bath was our next order. Again extremely soft, gooey & had cabbage in it. I prefer Veena Store’s khara bath over this. A wonderful coffee helped us end our meal here.
People kept pouring in for the wonderful breakfast. The service is quick with each server knowing exactly what you have ordered for without noting it down. You can see sketches of famous personalities across the walls & the ceiling is something different.
Glad I visited one of the iconic breakfast places in Bangalore.
