Had read a lot about this place on various foodie groups & was really excited to try it out. Was having Vietnamese cuisine for the 1st time so was curious. Located in Indiranagar amongst all the various eating-places, Phobidden Fruit has a small little board to make its presence felt.
Beautiful & spacious seating options are available for everyone. We walked straight inside to the extreme end & chose a table for two. This looks like a residential place converted into a restaurant, which most places in Bangalore are. The irritating feature is the hanging light – almost in the face. Come close to the table & the brightness hits your eye & the lamp actually hits your head.
Coming to the food, we started with a veg green papaya salad & veg summer roll.
Veg Green Papaya Salad – Was really looking forward to the salad & it didn’t disappoint me at all. Absolutely fresh with great flavours with a great presentation. BIG THUMBS UP.
The Veg Summer Roll is steamed rice paper stuffed with fresh veggies & herbs served with chilli-garlic oil. It technically didn’t have any flavours but tasted fresh & nice. I had it with the red chutney/sauce they had on the table.
Main course included Veg Bahn Mi & Veg Viet Red Curry.
The Bahn Mi is a sandwich made in baguette with pickled vegetables & herbs. The only problem here was the baguette, it was way to chewy.
The Viet Red Curry is very similar to the thai red curry but a little milder version loaded with fresh veggies served with rice & fried potato’s. It was ok-ok, nothing great.
I enjoyed my meal specially the salad. Ambiance is really good. If you have not tried Vietnamese food yet, visit this place for sure – good food & service.
